Editorial policy

The short version

Nothing on this site is written to persuade you. The figures are produced automatically from federal datasets; the explanatory text describes what those figures mean and where they come from.

How pages are produced

• Data pipeline. We download the published federal datasets, normalise them, and load them into our own database. This runs offline, on a schedule, without human editing.
• Page generation. Pages are generated from that database. The same input always produces the same output.
• Explanatory text. Guidance text is written by us and is limited to describing what a measure is, how it is defined by the publishing agency, and what its limitations are.

What we will not publish

• Numbers we cannot trace to a published federal dataset.
• A figure presented as current when the underlying data covers an earlier period.
• A missing value rendered as zero. Where an agency did not report something, we show “Not reported”.
• Rankings or scores invented by us that the source agency does not itself publish.
• Any claim of official status, endorsement, or affiliation.

Corrections

If a figure is wrong, we will fix the pipeline rather than the page, so the correction applies everywhere the figure appears. The date each dataset was last refreshed is shown alongside it.

Advertising

This site may display advertising. Advertisers have no influence over any figure, ranking, or rating, and no advertiser is given advance access to content. See Advertising disclosure.
